SELWYN’S SEAFOOD OPENS NEW SEAWEED ROASTING UNIT

cywain-fisheriesSouth Wales based Selwyn’s Seafood is looking to tap into the growing global demand for seaweed products with the opening of a specialised roasting unit.

The new facility was officially opened by Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, Rebecca Evans, and marks the latest expansion by the family-run business.

Selwyn’s has been assisted in its development by Cywain Fisheries – a European Fisheries Fund (EFF) supported project dedicated to adding value to the fisheries sector across Wales. While the new seaweed roasting unit has also received grant funding from the EFF.

The unit has enabled Selwyn’s to create a range of crispy seaweed snacks, which it launched this summer. Already proving very popular Selwyn’s Seaweed Snacks come in three flavours: Sea Salt & Vinegar, Coconut & Chilli, and Honey & Sesame.

DEPUTY MINISTER HEARS HOW CYWAIN FISHERIES LEADS THE WAY

logo-cywain-fisheriesCywain Fisheries, a groundbreaking project to boost the fortunes of the fishing industry in Wales is leading the way among its European counterparts bringing security and jobs to the sector.

Set up in 2011 by Menter a Busnes, and jointly funded by the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) and Welsh Government, Cywain Fisheries helps the fishing sector add value to primary produce and developing new products or markets.

Its package of support, and the way in which it is delivered, has been lauded as unique with no comparable scheme available anywhere else in Europe, and as such has the potential to act as a sectoral hub for all types of fisheries development activity.

WELSH FISHERMEN LOOK TO WIDEN THEIR NETS ON CORNISH STUDY TOUR

cywain-fisheriesWelsh fishermen will be travelling to Cornwall next week to look at ways to add value to their catch and bring more Welsh caught fish and seafood to the marketplace.

The study tour has been organised by Cywain Fisheries – a project launched in 2011 to help the fishing sector add value to primary produce.

Cornwall is famed for its fishing industry and the 11 strong group drawn from across Wales, will visit a number of locations to see how the Cornish industry operates in today’s marketplace.
