CYWAIN TO SHOWCASE FOOD & DRINK PRODUCERS AT WINTER FAIR

Cywain’s stand at next week’s (November 28th & 29th) Royal Welsh Winter Fair will be packed with food and drink products ranging from honey and wine to meat and cakes.

A magnet for visitors, the Winter Fair Food Hall is an important shop-window for Welsh food and drink producers.

Eleven small and up and coming food producers will be featured in the Food Hall under the auspices of Cywain – a project created to bring added value to primary produce within the agriculture sector.

As always the Food Hall will be the ideal place to stock-up on Christmas presents and adding to the festive feel will be a special Cywain Christmas Tree highlighting various producers throughout Wales the project has supported.

NEW NORTH WALES VINEYARD JOINS CYWAIN AT ROYAL WELSH SHOW

New vineyard, Gwinllan Conwy, will be joining the Cywain stand on the first day of the Royal Welsh Show (July 18-21).

The family-run North Wales vineyard produced its first wine earlier this year and were delighted to be awarded a silver award for their Solaris dry white wine at last month’s English and Welsh Wine of the Year competition.

Owners Colin and Charlotte Bennett harvested their first grapes at their vineyard near Llandudno Junction last October, and the special hybrid grape varieties have been chosen specifically to work well with the soil and climatic conditions in North Wales.

CYWAIN’S ROYAL WELSH STAND SHOWCASES NEW PRODUCTS AND TALENT

The Food Hall at the Royal Welsh Show (July 18-21) will once again be bursting with flavour, and the Cywain stand will be no exception with a talented and diverse line-up of Welsh food and drink producers.

A number of small and up and coming food producers will be featured in the Royal Welsh Show’s Food Hall under the auspices of Cywain – a project created to bring added value to primary produce within the agriculture sector.

Seven companies will feature on the Cywain-managed stand (numbers 66 & 67) over the four days of the Show, creating a diverse range of food and drink, which includes sausages, beer, honey, wine, cheese, gin, and botanical syrups!

FROM BILLINGSGATE TO HARRODS WELSH FISHERMEN TO VISIT CENTRES OF FISH EXCELLENCE

Cywain_MainRGBA group of Welsh fishermen and fishmongers are heading for London on a fact-finding tour that will take them from a bustling fish market to the fish departments of two of the most famous stores in the world.

The 13 delegates are part of the newly formed ‘Welsh Seafood Cluster’ – a Welsh Government supported body dedicated to adding value to fish and shellfish caught or farmed on Welsh shores.

The Cluster is part of the Business Development Programme, which through specific targeted support and ‘know how’ aims to help Welsh fisheries businesses overcome barriers to growth and exploit commercial opportunities.

Following their evening arrival in London the study tour (November 23-25th) will begin with an early morning visit to the renowned Billingsgate Market.

WEST WALES VINEYARD RAISES A GLASS TO ITS FIRST WINE

Cywain_MainRGBNew Carmarthenshire vineyard – Jabajak – has joined the illustrious ranks of Wales’ burgeoning wine industry with the launch of its first wine, which has just picked up its first award too!

The launch took place during the Welsh Vineyard Association’s annual awards ceremony, which saw vineyard owners from across Wales gather at Jabajak’s Whitland-based vineyard for the competition.

It was also a day of celebration for Jabajak as their first wine received a prestigious silver award.

Jabajak Vineyard Restaurant with Rooms is the creation of the Stuart Robson family: Amanda and Julian their children Jo, Ali and Katie and grandmother Buddug.

SELWYN’S SEAFOOD OPENS NEW SEAWEED ROASTING UNIT

cywain-fisheriesSouth Wales based Selwyn’s Seafood is looking to tap into the growing global demand for seaweed products with the opening of a specialised roasting unit.

The new facility was officially opened by Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, Rebecca Evans, and marks the latest expansion by the family-run business.

Selwyn’s has been assisted in its development by Cywain Fisheries – a European Fisheries Fund (EFF) supported project dedicated to adding value to the fisheries sector across Wales. While the new seaweed roasting unit has also received grant funding from the EFF.

The unit has enabled Selwyn’s to create a range of crispy seaweed snacks, which it launched this summer. Already proving very popular Selwyn’s Seaweed Snacks come in three flavours: Sea Salt & Vinegar, Coconut & Chilli, and Honey & Sesame.

A number of small and up and coming food producers will be featured in the Food Hall under the auspices of Cywain – a project created to bring added value to primary produce within the agriculture sector.

A total of eight companies will feature on the Cywain-managed stand over the four days (July 20-23) of the Show, creating a diverse range of food and drink.

Many of the producers will be making their show debut, while others will be launching new products and ideas.

NEW OMEGA-3 ENRICHED MILK IS OM3

Cywain_MainRGBA unique Welsh milk brand, which uses pioneering scientific techniques to naturally boost the amount of Omega-3 in dairy products, is set to hit the shelves.

OM3 is the result of a collaboration between Pembrokeshire dairy farmer Will Prichard and scientists in Wales and Australia.

Omega-3 is an “essential” fatty acid and a vital component for human health. While it has been shown to help prevent certain diseases, Omega-3 is also believed to be beneficial to brain development in in babies and children.

But unlike most types of fats the human body can’t make Omega-3 and instead relies on getting its supply from food, with fish, vegetable oils, nuts, seeds and leafy vegetables particularly good sources.

However, using groundbreaking technology to combine natural cattle feed with Omega-3 oil, it is now possible to produce milk which is naturally enriched with this essential fatty acid..

DA IAWN! DOODLE BAKES GET WELSH MAKEOVER WITH HELP FROM CYWAIN

Cywain_MainRGBBespoke Montgomery biscuiteer Doodle Bakes has launched into the retail scene with a new range of bilingually packaged biscuits.

It has been a rapid rise for Doodle Bakes, which was started by busy mum Nicky Markham in her kitchen in 2011 making high quality, hand crafted, bespoke Royal Iced biscuits and cakes.

The venture has been supported in its brand development by Cywain, a Welsh Government backed project to help bring added value to primary produce.

Now Nicky hopes the launch of the eye-catching bilingual branding will widen the appeal of her bakes even further.
